How To Turn On File Extensions In Windows XP And 7
Feb 11, 2012Windows
By default, both Windows XP and Windows 7 hide the extensions for common files, such as .jpg, .pdf, .html, and .doc. I recommend changing this behavior, so that you can more easily change the file extension and determine the file type of a file. To do this, you need to uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options. Follow the below instructions for your operating system.

Web Design Image File Size Optimization Guide
Feb 8, 2012Web Development
Reducing the file size of the images used in your web design can improve loading speeds, which will keep some visitors from leaving prematurely, and can reduce the load and bandwidth usage on your server. Large reductions in file size can be achieved by selecting the right format and quality, and taking the time to optimize each and every image that your design uses, no matter the size. I'm going to cover how to reduce the file size of both JPG and PNG images, and how you can do it without sacrificing the clarity of your images.

How to Assign Custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Photoshop CS5
Feb 8, 2012WindowsComments (1)
Want to change a keyboard shortcut for something in Photoshop? Annoyed that Brightness/Contrast doesn't have a keyboard shortcut by default? It is easy to assign a keyboard shortcut in Photoshop, just be wary that most keyboard shortcuts are already in use, so chances are you'll have to remove a shortcut from something else first. There's plenty of things you probably don't use (like shortcuts to specific Filters), so that shouldn't be a problem.

How to Delete Facebook Apps and Games
Feb 7, 2012Web and InternetComments (3)
Facebook is a complex web application with many settings. Some of these settings can be hard to find, mainly because the path to get to them changes every time Facebook changes their layout. Deleting an app or game used to be more difficult, but now can be accessed fairly easy from the side bar on the home page. However, not all apps are displayed in this side bar. To find a complete list of all of your apps, and be able to delete them or change their settings, follow these steps.

Effective Text Spacing for Web Design
Feb 2, 2012Web Development
Having effective and well thought-out text spacing in your web design can increase the readability of the text, make it easier for users to scan through it and find specific points, and improve the look and feel of the design as a whole. Despite this, many designers ignore text spacing or give it considerably less attention than the graphical elements of their design. If your website relies at all on text to convey information, you would be shooting yourself in the foot by ignoring text spacing.

Team Fortress 2 Offensive Engineer Mini-Sentry Guide, Strategy & Tips
Jan 26, 2012PC GamingComments (1)
These tips are focused on public-server players. To play an offensive mini-sentry engineer effectively, you must ignore conventional wisdom. The mini-sentry is not an area denial weapon like a level 3 sentry, and you should not sit behind it or bother wrenching on it (it's non-repairable). You must be aggressive and clever in your mini-sentry placement and in how you engage enemies with your shotgun.

8 Reasons why I prefer Firefox over Chrome
Jan 6, 2012Web and Internet
Chrome has been making major inroads into the browser market share of both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It is now close to tied with Firefox and the trend favors Chrome. This is probably due in large part to Google leveraging its marketing power to push Chrome. The new Chromebooks will certainly help push the name recognition further.

Steam Rent-to-Own Distribution Model Idea
Jan 3, 2012PC Gaming
I'm not the first to ask for or dream up a Steam PC game rental or rent-to-own service, but until they offer it, I don't see the harm in speculating. There is undoubtedly a huge market of untapped potential here. Other companies have offered rental services, but none come even close to the reach Valve has with Steam. Here is my idea for a Steam Rent-to-Own service:

Adobe Flash Player Full Standalone/Offline Installer
Dec 29, 2011Web and Internet
The Flash Player download from Adobe's main website is not a compete installer. After running it, the installer's first step is to download the rest of itself. This generally isn't a problem, but it is useful to have the full standalone installer if you need to install Flash Player on an offline computer. It can also bypass the Adobe Flash Player Failed to Initialize error that sometimes occurs with the normal installer.

Adobe Reader Full Standalone/Offline Installer
Dec 29, 2011Web and Internet
If you've downloaded the Adobe Reader installer from the main Adobe website, you've probably noticed that it is not a complete installer. After running it, the installer's first step is to download the rest of the installer. No, you're not the only one that finds this annoying.

How To Enable Adblock in Chrome Incognito Mode (Private Browsing)
Dec 23, 2011Web and InternetComments (6)
By default Google Chrome disables your extensions for Incognito windows. This is in general a good practice since extensions can collect and store private data. However, it can be particularly irritating to not have an ad blocker enabled. Full-screen popups, flashing banner ads, "fake" links littered throughout a text document, and other horrors.
